NORFOLK, Va.   – The App State women’s basketball team fell to Old Dominion, 68-49, on the road on Thursday.

Senior Faith Alston and sophomore Chaé Harris led the Mountaineers with 12 points apiece. Sophomore Alexis Black netted eight points and accounted for two of App State’s four treys on the night. Fellow sophomore Rylan Moffitt pulled down a team-high four rebounds, while fifth year senior Taylor Lewis dished out a team-high three assists. App State recorded 10 fastbreak points and 15 points off of turnovers.

Junior Emily Carver made her return to the court by putting the Mountaineers on the board with a 3-point bucket. Harris extended the Mountaineers’ lead to 6-2 after completing a three-point play. ODU managed to tie things up at six all before taking a hefty 20-9 lead to close the quarter.

Facing a scoring drought at the start of the second period, Alston managed to get to the hoop for a layup. Harris knocked down a 3-point bucket, which she promptly followed up with a jumper to cut ODU’s lead to 26-16. Late in the quarter, Carver and Alston made a pair of layups, but the Monarchs closed the half with a 34-21 lead.

App State outscored Old Dominion in the third quarter, 17-14. Graduate student Mariah Frazier opened the quarter with a layup. Black contributed eight points, which included a pair of back-to-back treys. Black and Harris each shot a perfect 2-of-2 from the line over the course of the quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Frazier and Alston landed a pair of jumpers. The Mountaineers shot 7-of-10 from the line. As App State faced a scoring drought, Old Dominion steadily built its lead to take the win, 68-49.
