BOONE, N.C. – App State Men’s Basketball and head coach Dustin Kerns announced its 2024-25 nonconference opponents on Wednesday. The full Sun Belt Conference schedule was announced in August.

The nonconference schedule will include five games at the Holmes Convocation Center, including the first matchup of the MAC-SBC Challenge against Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 4, plus a road schedule that includes a Nov. 10 visit to tradition Big Ten power Wisconsin. App State is coming off the program’s first undefeated season at home as an NCAA Division I program and currently owns the nation’s 10th-longest home winning streak, which currently stands at 15.

The Mountaineers enter the 2024-25 season after posting a program-record 27 wins a season ago, a total that helped lead to the Sun Belt regular-season crown. App State’s appearance in the National Invitation Tournament marked the program’s third postseason appearance under Kerns.

App State will look to continue its recent winning ways as it comes into the season having posted 97 wins over the last five years. It’s the winningest five-year stretch in program history.

“Once again, this is one of the best and most competitive overall schedules we have put together,” Kerns said. “We play six programs that won 20 or more games last season all off the mountain. We are facing several top-level regional mid-major programs here in Boone and on the road. The second year of the MAC-SBC Challenge also brings an added excitement for our fans and students.

We always strive to be intentional in our scheduling and playing in areas where our players are from and near their families is always strategic – we only play outside of North Carolina once before the new year. We feel this schedule will prepare us for the always demanding Sun Belt Conference.”

Season tickets for all men’s basketball games went on sale in August. The deadline to renew existing season tickets to lock in your seats for the 2024-25 season is Oct. 11, with single-game tickets set to go on sale later in the fall. Tickets and renewals can be purchased at appstatesports.com/tickets.

Following home games against the RedHawks and St. Andrews to open the schedule is the trip to Madison, Wis., where the Mountaineers and the Wisconsin Badgers will meet for the first time. The Badgers garnered a No. 5 seed in last year’s NCAA Tournament and have earned an at-large bid into the 68-team field in three of the last four years.

App State will then head down the mountain to the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville to take on the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Nov. 14. The Mountaineers haven’t played against the Bulldogs in Asheville since 1991.

After home games against in-state foe Queens on Nov. 19 and William & Mary on Nov. 24, the Mountaineers will head to Wilmington for the Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic starting Nov. 27.

While there, the Mountaineers will square off with the Sam Houston Bearkats (Nov. 27), the Colgate Raiders (Nov. 29) and the UNCW Seahawks (Nov. 30). All three squads won at least 20 games in 2023-24, with both Colgate and Sam Houston winning their respective conferences. Colgate also earned a No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Patriot League Tournament championship.

Heading into December, App State will host Mid-Atlantic Christian on Dec. 3, before taking 11 days off for finals. The Mountaineers will then head to the Novant Health Fieldhouse in Greensboro, N.C., to face High Point on Dec. 14. The Panthers will be the third team App State will square off with that won its conference’s regular-season title last year.

Sun Belt Conference action is set to kick off on Dec. 18 at Louisiana. App State’s 12th and final nonconference game will come in February as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge. The opponent and location will be decided in January.
