NEW ORLEANS – App State’s Jan. 27 men’s basketball home matchup with the James Madison Dukes has been picked up for national TV and will air on either ESPN2 or ESPNU, the Sun Belt Conference announced Thursday. The network will be determined six days before the game.

With the announcement, tipoff has been moved to 6 p.m. from the Holmes Convocation Center

For the second time this season – and second time ever at the Holmes Center –  the Mountaineers will play in front of a nationally televised audience.

On Dec. 3 in front of a national audience on ESPN2 and a sold-out Holmes Center, the Mountaineers handed a 69-64 loss to the Auburn Tigers, which is still the last time the Tigers lost a game this season. The Tigers are currently the 16th-ranked team in the AP Poll and the fourth-ranked team according to KenPom.

App State is off to one of its best starts this century, winning 11 of its first 15 games. The last time an App State team had started 11-4 or better in its first 15 games came back in 2006-07 when Houston Fancher’s squad won 12 of its first 15 contests. Additionally, the Mountaineers have won 10 of their last 12 games, which is the best 12-game stretch since the 2009-10 season.

The Mountaineers are ranked in the top 50 in the country in several categories, but most notably, the Black and Gold enter this weekend’s action as the national leader in blocked shots per game and a top-five ranking in opponent field goal percentage. As of Wednesday’s games, App State is also ranked in the top 100 in the NCAA NET rankings for the sixth consecutive week, while also being a top-15 team in Collegeinsider.com’s Mid Major rankings for the sixth straight week.

James Madison was one of the last three unbeaten teams in the country before losing for the first time last Saturday to Southern Miss. Before the loss, the Dukes were ranked in the AP Poll for eight consecutive weeks. JMU jumped into the AP Poll for the first time in program history after knocking off the then-No. 4 ranked Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing to open their season.

Tickets still remain for App State’s home bout with the Dukes on Jan. 27.
