Local Man Arrested for Sexual Molestation of a Child

Ashe County, N.C. – Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of 40-year-old Adam Michael May of Creston, N.C., for Statutory Rape of a Child and indecent Liberties with a Child.

On July 6th, 2024, the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a minor with allegations of rape and inappropriate conduct. Detective Curtis Elliott initiated an investigation and was able to obtain evidence against the suspect, Adam May. Warrants were issued for May on this date, but the suspect fled Ashe County to Tennessee.

On July 10th, Detective Elliott and Deputy Courtney Sawyer, with the help of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, located May in a hotel in Mountain City, TN. He was transported to the Johnson County Detention Center without further incident. Adam May was later extradited back to Ashe County, where he was placed in the Ashe County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond. His charges include:
• 2 Counts Felony Stat Rape of Child by Adult
• 4 Counts Felony Indecent Liberties with Child
• Felony First Degree Statutory Sex Off
• Felony Fugitive Extradition Other State
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are
expected.
