FH: Dinsmore, Clark Take Home Individual MAC Awards, Six Named All-MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – App State field hockey earned a total of nine All-MAC awards, tied for the most of any team in the conference, the league announced Thursday.
 
In her first season at the helm of the program, head coach Emily Dinsmore was named the Co-Coach of the Year alongside Ohio’s Ali Johnstone, while Addie Clark was named the MAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Clark and Lise Boekaar were named to the All-MAC first team, while the trio of Charlotte Bosma, Grace Ball and Sophia Baxter earned All-MAC second team honors. Rounding out the plethora of conference awards are Florine Koopman and Sophia Baxter, who were named to the All-MAC Freshman team.
 
“As a team, if one member is honored we all rejoice together,” Dinsmore said. “Having six different student-athletes recognized speaks to the hard work, effort and dedication of this group.”
 
 
Emily Dinsmore – MAC Co-Coach of the Year
Dinsmore has broken several program records in her first year at the helm of the Mountaineer field hockey program. Most notably, Dinsmore passed Mountaineer legend Jan Watson’s record for wins by an App State first-year head coach with the win over Ohio on Oct. 27. The team’s 6-1 record in the MAC is the best conference record the team has earned since becoming a MAC member in 2017. Dinsmore led her squad to a nine-game winning streak to close out the regular season, leading to the team’s first ever MAC regular season championship.
 
“This honor truly goes out to our entire staff,” Dinsmore said. “You win with people, and we have incredible people in this program that pour their heart and soul into this team.” 
 
Addie Clark – MAC Goalkeeper of the Year
Clark has been rock solid between the posts for the Mountaineers in her final season in the High Country, earning the second-lowest goals-against average mark in the conference at 1.42, saving a career-best .787 percent of the shots she faced and allowing the fewest goals in the conference with 23. Clark was 2-0 in games decided in shootouts this season, beating both Kent State and the No. 8 Louisville Cardinals. The fifth-year keeper reached the 250-save milestone against the Golden Flashes on Oct. 6, saving nine shots total on the day. Clark has saved 10 or more shots in a game twice this season, one coming against the No. 2 North Carolina Tar Heels on Sep. 24, and the other coming in a win against No. 8 Louisville, where she saved 12 shots. Lastly, the Louisville, Ky., native has posted the most shutouts in the MAC this season with four. She has posted 14 shutouts for her career with 12 coming in the past two seasons.
 
Addie Clark, Lise Boekaar – All-MAC First Team
Lise Boekaar had a strong second half of the season, scoring all five of her goals during the team’s nine-game winning streak. She was a big part of App State’s wins over Central Michigan and Ball State, scoring the game-winning goal in both games. The sophomore improved in every major offensive category in her second season in the High Country, tallying career highs in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14). She was responsible for dishing out the assist on Hadley Kuzmicky’s game-winning overtime goal against Ohio to clinch App State’s first ever MAC regular season title.
 
Charlotte Bosma, Grace Ball, Sophia Baxter – All-MAC Second Team
Charlotte Bosma had a terrific year on the offensive side for the Mountaineers in her third year in the High Country. She was another player who saw significant development in Dinsmore’s first season as head coach, as Bosma led the team in multiple major offensive categories, including goals (6) and points (17). The junior’s best game of the year came in the MAC opener on Sept. 15, where she tallied two goals and dished out an assist as part of a five-point day on enemy turf.
 
Grace Ball had another outstanding season in the Black & Gold, posting her second consecutive season playing over 1,000 minutes and being an important part of the defensive unit. Ball was a part of all five shutouts for the Mountaineers this season. She was a major key to the Black & Gold’s defensive penalty corner unit all season long and helped hold No. 8 Louisville to 0-15 on corners in their matchup on Oct. 22. On the offensive side, the Blue Bell, Pa., native scored the Mountaineers’ second goal in the shootout against No. 8 Louisville on Oct. 22. She also notched a career high two assists, both coming in the same game against Georgetown on Aug. 27. 
 
Baxter posted an exceptional first season with App State, leading to her second-team selection. She was one of six Mountaineers to post 10 points on the year, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists. She was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week for week one after she notched her first career multi-goal game against the Georgetown Hoyas on Aug. 27. The Sykesville, Md., native posted two multi-goal games this season scoring twice against Queens on Oct. 15. Baxter was also one of four Mountaineers to play over 1,000 minutes on the year.
 
Florine Koopman, Sophia Baxter – All-MAC Freshman Team
Florine Koopman had a phenomenal freshman year under Coach Dinsmore, posting three goals and four assists, en route to a 10-point season. She scored her first career multi-goal game on Aug. 27, scoring twice against the Hoyas before netting the game’s first goal against Lindenwood on Sept. 30. Koopman was a huge part of the Mountaineer offensive penalty corner unit, as she was the inserter for the majority of the team’s 93 penalty corners. The Wassenaar, the Netherlands, native made an instant impact in the High Country, making 15 starts and playing over 800 minutes in her first year.
