QB Daniel Jones agrees to a 1-year, $14 million deal with the Colts, AP source says

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has agreed to a one-year, $14 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The person, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because free agents can’t sign until Wednesday, said Jones’ deal is worth up to $17.7 million. The No. 6 overall pick in 2019 by the Giants, Jones will get a chance to compete with Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis. Jones was 24-44-1 in New York with one playoff victory. He finished last season as a backup with the Vikings after the Giants released him.

Vikings focus up front in free agency by reaching deals with DT Jonathan Allen, G Will Fries

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings are continuing their aggressive reconstruction of the interior lines in free agency. They agreed to terms on contracts with former Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen and former Indianapolis Colts guard Will Fries. Allen is a two-time Pro Bowl pick who was released last week for salary cap savings. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Allen had been Washington’s second-longest-tenured player after being drafted in the first round in 2017. Fries is a 26-year-old who followed center Ryan Kelly from the Colts to the Vikings. Kelly has four Pro Bowl selections.

Manchester United reveals plans for the ‘world’s greatest’ soccer stadium to replace Old Trafford

LONDON (AP) — Manchester United has unveiled plans to build the biggest stadium in the United Kingdom. A proposed 100,000-seater arena would be the “world’s greatest football stadium,” part owner Jim Ratcliffe says. Under the plans, the 20-time English champion says it will build next to its existing Old Trafford ground. That means it will not need to relocate during the construction process. United did not say how much the stadium would cost to build or reveal a timeline for its completion. British billionaire Ratcliffe paid $1.3 billion for an initial 25% stake in United last year and made the construction of a new stadium one of his priorities.

PSG on brink of Champions League exit despite playing some of the best football in Europe

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain is traveling to Anfield looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg of its last-16 Champions League tie against Liverpool. The French club has good reasons to believe after the Reds’ smash-and-grab win in Paris, where Liverpool had just 35% of the possession and two shots compared to the home team’s 28. In other matches, Barcelona defends a 1-0 lead against Benfica, Inter Milan hosts Feyenoord on the back of a 2-0 away win in the first leg and Bayern Munich travels to Bayer Leverkusen after comprehensively beating its Bundesliga rival 3-0.

Argentina puts 7 of Maradona’s healthcare professionals on trial

BUENOS AIRES (AP) — An Argentine court has started its trial of seven healthcare professionals accused of negligence in the death of soccer great Diego Maradona at age 60. Maradona was under the care of those professionals when he had a cardiac arrest in a house outside Buenos Aires on Nov. 25, 2020. The maximum jail time for those sentenced is 25 years.

Collin Morikawa is reminded by tough losses that winning on the PGA Tour is hard

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Collin Morikawa needs no reminder that winning on the PGA Tour is hard. He’s getting plenty of them. Morikawa is playing well enough to have moved to No. 4 in the world ranking. But he has gone 17 months without winning. His most recent chance was Sunday at Bay Hill. He had a three-shot lead with five holes to play and didn’t do a lot wrong. Russell Henley made birdie on the hardest hole and eagle on a chip-in that hit the pin. Morikawa doesn’t care about good golf. He says it’s up to him to do the little things that help him win.

Meet Formula 1’s biggest rookie intake in years. Some already are targeting the podium

Kimi Antonelli once hid in a stack of tires to get through security and into the Formula 1 paddock. Now the 18-year-old Italian is Lewis Hamilton’s successor at Mercedes. Antonelli is part of F1’s biggest intake of new drivers in years as top teams put some trust in youth. Six of the 20 drivers on the 2025 grid are starting their first full seasons in F1. Some could potentially compete for wins, while others are already under pressure to retain their seats.

The NBA’s Southeast Division is struggling. There’s still hope for the Hawks, Magic and Heat

This fall will mark the 10th anniversary of the NBA changing its playoff rules and not guaranteeing a division champion a top-four seed regardless of their record. The Southeast Division this season is a good reason why that change was necessary. In NBA history, there’s never been a division with a worst won-loss record than the Southeast this season. Entering Monday, the five teams in the Southeast — Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Charlotte and Washington — had a combined record of 113-200, that winning percentage of .369 set to be the worst of any division ever.

Higher interest in youth level leading to rapid increase of Division III women’s hockey programs

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Former Wisconsin star Baylee Marabella had to play hockey alongside boys up until high school because she couldn’t find a girls team in her area. That isn’t as much of a problem in hockey hotbeds such as Wisconsin anymore with a steady increase in the number of girls playing the sport. Marabella now coaches Milwaukee School of Engineering during its inaugural season. It’s one of over two dozen Division III schools to start women’s hockey teams over the last decade.

Paige Bueckers and UConn are healthy and rolling as her final March Madness approaches

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Paige Bueckers is in a class by herself in the Big East, becoming the first player to win the most outstanding player of the conference tournament three times. It was the 23rd Big East tournament title for the Huskies, including five straight since they rejoined the conference in 2021. Now UConn’s star will try and cap off her illustrious career with an NCAA championship. The difference is that this year, Bueckers are UConn are healthy heading into March Madness.
