BOONE, N.C. – The App State men’s basketball team has added a home-and-home series with North Texas, with the first game to be played at the UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas, on Dec. 20. It will be the Mountaineers’ first game against the Mean Green since 1990. The Mean Green will come to Boone in the 2026-27 season to complete the series.
This year’s contest will be a battle between two squads that made the National Invitation Tournament last season. North Texas defeated LSU in the first round before falling to Seton Hall in the second round.
App State’s addition of North Texas increases the total to six games that will be played away from home during the nonconference schedule, which was announced in September. Each road game for the Mountaineers is against an opponent that won at least 19 games a season ago.
In 12 road games in 2023-24, the Mountaineers posted an 8-4 record, marking their best winning percentage on the road since the 2006-07 season. App State’s four road losses last season were the fewest it had suffered since 1997-98.
North Texas, which plays in the American Athletic Conference, went 19-15 last year under first-year head coach Ross Hodge, with 10 of those wins coming in AAC play. The Mean Green were picked to finish seventh in this season’s AAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Mountaineers are set to begin the 2024-25 season on Nov. 4 at the Holmes Convocation Center against the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
The 2024-25 Men’s Basketball season is presented by Foscoe Companies.
