Jets acquire wide receiver Davante Adams from Raiders, reuniting him with Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are finally reunited after more than two years of separation and one year of speculation and now they’ll try to save the New York Jets′ sinking season. The Jets acquired the disgruntled Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday by sending a conditional third-round pick in next year’s draft that could become a second-rounder. The deal was agreed upon Tuesday morning and was contingent on Adams passing his physical. The teams officially announced the trade a few hours later. Rodgers and Adams were teammates in Green Bay for eight seasons before the wide receiver was traded to Las Vegas in 2022.

Bills boost patchwork receiver group by acquiring Amari Cooper in trade with Browns

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills upgraded their patchwork group of receivers by acquiring Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Buffalo gave up a third-round pick in the 2025 draft as part of the trade that also included a swap of late-round picks. The trade was made a day after the Bills expanded their lead atop the AFC East with a 23-20 win over their division rival New York Jets. The Browns’ decision to trade one of their top players could be a sign of the team giving up on a season growing worse by the week after Cleveland dropped to 1-5 with a loss to Philadelphia on Sunday.

The Super Bowl will return to Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2028

ATLANTA (AP) — The Super Bowl will return to Atlanta in 2028 at the home of the Falcons, following a vote of approval by NFL team owners on Tuesday at the league’s annual fall meeting. This will be the fourth time the NFL’s championship game is played in Atlanta and the second in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which was the site when the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. The first two Super Bowls held in Atlanta were at the now-demolished Georgia Dome in 1994 and 2000. New Orleans will host the game following this season. It then goes to California for two years.

Mexico is struggling to stamp out a homophobic soccer chant ahead of the World Cup

GUADALAJARA, México (AP) — Guadalajara is the capital of a Mexican state that is home to tequila and Mariachi music. It is also considered the birthplace of a less flattering tradition – a homophobic soccer chant that has cost Mexico hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines over the past two decades. It’s no wild guess that the chant, a one-word slur which literally means male prostitute in Spanish, will be heard from the crowd when Mexico hosts the United States in a friendly on Tuesday. Multiple sanctions from FIFA and campaigns by Mexican soccer officials to educate fans have not been able to stamp it out.

The cost of rising number of injuries in European soccer nears $800 million, report finds

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — An annual report says the rising number of injuries to top soccer players came at a cost of nearly $800 million across Europe’s leading leagues last season. At a time when there are growing concerns about the number of games players are being asked to play, the Men’s European football injury index found there were 4,123 injuries in the top divisions of England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France in the 2023-24 campaign. And it highlighted a greater strain on clubs as a result of the newly expanded Club World Cup, which will be staged in America next year. The cost of the injuries was based on the reported salaries of the players concerned.

For Johnny and Matthew: Blue Jackets to play their home opener with Gaudreaus in mind

Johnny Gaudreau’s Columbus teammates have been given a few options for how to handle their emotions during the Blue Jackets’ home opener. If you want to cry, cry. If you want to laugh, laugh. Just play the game the way “Johnny Hockey” would have and with him in mind. An emotional night awaits in Columbus on Tuesday, when the Blue Jackets host the Florida Panthers. It will be a night of tributes to Johnny Gaudreau, the Blue Jackets’ star who was killed along with his brother Matthew by a suspected drunken-driver in August.

Masters might want to rethink invitations to PGA Tour winners in the fall: Analysis

The FedEx Cup Fall is more than a chance for players to try to keep their PGA Tour cards. A win against some of the weaker fields of the year earns a ticket to the Masters. Two of the winners of fall events were ranked well outside the top 100 in the world ranking. And there have been 23 other such players dating to 2013 when the Masters agreed to extend invitation to fall winners. But times are changing. The top players don’t play much in the fall. Augusta National might want to look at its criteria.

Logano gets back into playoffs following Bowman disqualification and has sights set on 3rd Cup title

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Joey Logano hoped he’d done enough to advance in NASCAR’s playoffs with an eighth-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But when he left the track Sunday night, he was four points below the cutline and eliminated from any shot at winning a third Cup Series title. Then came the phone calls: inspection was taking a long time and there could be a problem with one of the playoff cars. All Logano could do was wait and wonder if there truly was something amiss with Alex Bowman’s car and if it was egregious enough to push Logano into the round of eight. Bowman failed inspection and Logano goes to Las Vegas Motor Speedway back in playoff contention.
