Wilkes Community College Expands Fall Festival to Welcome Community to Campus
Free Oct. 29 event will feature more than 30 attractions, live music, and opportunities to explore WCC programs and services
Wilkesboro, N.C. – Wilkes Community College will expand its annual Fall Festival on Thursday, Oct. 29, with an evening community event designed to welcome prospective students, families, and residents to campus for an opportunity to experience the college, explore its programs, and enjoy an evening of activities and live music.
The expanded festival will feature more than 30 attractions, activities, and booths, along with live music from Savannah Grace & The Nashville Misfits. The event will take place primarily in the courtyard in front of Thompson Hall and Hayes Hall, with faculty, staff, and representatives from academic and workforce divisions available to share information about the college’s educational opportunities.
“The Fall Festival reflects our commitment to being an open and accessible resource for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Mike Rodgers, president of Wilkes Community College. “We want people to see firsthand that Wilkes Community College is here for them, whether they are considering a new career, looking to develop new skills, exploring educational opportunities for their family, or simply connecting with their community. Opening our campus in an engaging, welcoming environment is one way we bring our mission to life.”
This year’s festival will feature two sessions to serve both current students and the broader community. The student-only session will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will offer games, activities, food, and opportunities for students to relax and connect with classmates. The evening community session will run from 4 to 7 p.m. and is open to everyone, including prospective students, high school students, families, and friends.
During the evening session, each academic and workforce division will have a designated area where visitors can learn more about WCC’s programs, clubs, and activities. Faculty and staff will be available to answer questions, discuss career and educational pathways, and help visitors explore opportunities that fit their interests and goals.
“The expanded Fall Festival gives people a chance to discover just how much Wilkes Community College has to offer, all in one place,” said Jackson Brown of Wilkes Community College. “Visitors can meet the people behind our programs, ask questions, explore different fields of study, and learn about opportunities they may not have known were available to them. Whether someone is planning their next step after high school, considering a career change, or simply curious about what we do, we want them to feel welcome and leave with a better understanding of how WCC can help them reach their goals.”
Organizers encourage community members to attend, bring their families, and take advantage of the opportunity to experience the college in an informal, interactive setting.
The festival will take place rain or shine. If weather conditions require adjustments, organizers will move activities indoors, with most of the event relocating to Window World Hall.
