The Beast of Cottonwood Canyon, a western/monster movie featuring seven people from Ashe County, will debut on The Parkway Theater’s big screen on Saturday, September 19 at 5:00 pm. Admission is free for the 47-minute movie. Theater goers are urged to buy popcorn, candy, and drinks to thank the theater staff for hosting the Beast. The Parkway is at 10 East Main St., West Jefferson.
The Director’s Cut of The Beast of Cottonwood Canyon will go up on YouTube that same night, September 19, at 6:00pm.
Clint Johnson of Ashe County wrote, directed, and filmed the movie. Shot in just eight hours on location in Cottonwood, The Beast is his sixth movie and fifth western. He debuted Martin Gambill’s Ride To Kings Mountain at The Parkway last fall.
“The movie uses rodeo riders and cowboy reenactors for the roles. Seven people live here in Ashe County with some actors in Virginia and one coming from the Atlanta area. They all came together to help me make Beast for the fun of acting in a western,” said Johnson.
One word of warning for anyone coming to the premier with small children. There is some quick movie monster violence.
Johnson spent his career as a non-fiction writer for magazines and newspapers. He has published 13 non-fiction books with various publishers around the country. He was president of the Friends of Ashe County Public Library for 12 years.
