Event offers healthy aging insights and continuing education units for health care providers
BOONE, N.C. — Registration is open for Appalachian State University’s third annual Aging Well Conference, set for May 14–15 at Levine Hall of Health Sciences in Boone. The event offers healthy aging information for attendees and continuing education units (CEUs) for health care providers.
The conference is presented by App State’s Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness (App Well), in partnership with Northwest Area Health Education Center and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with support from title sponsor Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina: Medicare and day sponsors Amorem and EveryAge.
“This conference is designed to help our region deliver age-friendly care that is both evidence-based and deeply person-centered,” said Dr. Gavin Colquitt, executive director of App Well. “We’re bringing together clinicians, researchers and community members so participants leave with tools they can use immediately to improve their lives or the lives of others.”
The conference will focus on the 4Ms Framework of Age-Friendly Care — What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility — and will address topics including fall prevention and safe movement, brain health and cognitive decline, behavioral health and loneliness, medication safety and deprescribing, and advance care planning.
Sessions will include keynote presentations by aging experts, concurrent breakout sessions, networking opportunities, an exhibitor fair and a research poster viewing and reception.
Registration is $50 for community members and students; $75 for non-physician health care providers (one day) or $175 (two days); and $150 for physicians (one day) or $250 (two days). Registration includes lunch, morning refreshments and a closing reception.
