Registration is open for App State’s 2026–27 Homeschool PE Program

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University’s Department of Recreation Management and Physical Education will offer its Homeschool Physical Education Program during the 2026–27 academic year, continuing its longstanding commitment to serving local homeschool families.

For more than three decades, the Homeschool PE Program has provided physical education opportunities for children in the local homeschool community while offering valuable hands-on teaching experiences for App State students preparing to become physical education teachers.

Each academic year, the program serves approximately 50–70 children from the surrounding community. This program provides children with developmentally appropriate physical education experiences designed to build motor skills, encourage physical activity, and promote confidence and enjoyment in movement. Lessons are taught by App State health and physical education teacher education students under the supervision of university faculty.

2026–27 program information

The program is open to children ages 5–12, with children required to turn 5 by Sept. 15. Limited spaces are available for children ages 3–4, with priority given to those who have an older sibling enrolled in the program.

The fall 2026 session runs Sept. 15–Nov. 12 in the Student Recreation Center, with no classes Oct. 6 or Oct. 22. The spring 2027 session runs Feb. 9–April 15 in Varsity Gym, with no classes March 9 or March 11. Both locations are on App State’s Boone campus.

The cost is $30 per child for the full 2026–27 academic year and includes a program T-shirt.
