PHILADELPHIA (AP) — LeBron James is heading to the Philadelphia 76ers. James made the announcement on social media, saying it will be his “last decision” and that it comes after he strongly considered retirement. James says “I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.” James wrote he was “done” when his 23rd NBA season ended. He says “I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and deicide if I still love this game.”
IOC won’t pursue its member Infantino over FIFA red-card ruling at World Cup
GENEVA (AP) — The IOC has cited having no jurisdiction over its member Gianni Infantino to explain why the FIFA leader will not be investigated for a lack of political neutrality. A formal complaint was made after U.S. President Donald Trump helped stop a player’s ban at the World Cup. A London-based NGO asked the International Olympic Committee ethics commission to investigate Infantino over United States forward Folarin Balogun not serving a mandatory one-game ban despite being sent off in the previous game. The IOC says the complaint didn’t relate to FIFA’s or Infantino’s specific relations with the Olympic body.
CBS NFL analyst and former Cowboys QB Tony Romo arrested on suspicion of OWI
MILWAUKEE (AP) — CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence. A Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office’s arrest report says Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests after getting stopped while driving south on Interstate 43 on Thursday. Sheriff’s officials said Romo was taken into custody, booked and released. He has a court appearance set for Sept. 21. Romo went to high school about 35 miles from Milwaukee in Burlington, Wisconsin. The 46-year-old Romo has been the lead game analyst for CBS’ NFL coverage since 2017. CBS had no comment.
Michael Kim shoots a 59 at the 3M Open, the 15th time it’s been done in PGA Tour history
BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Michael Kim carded the 15th 59 in PGA Tour history by making a 24-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole at the 3M Open. Kim birdied the final four holes of his bogey-free round at TPC Twin Cities to get to 14-under for the tournament. Jake Knapp was the last to shoot 59 during the first round of the 2025 Cognizant Classic. Kim’s previous career low round was 62 but he made five straight birdies beginning on No. 3 and added three in a four-hole stretch beginning on No. 9.
Former President Barack Obama surprises WNBA All-Stars at their practice at his Presidential Center
CHICAGO (AP) — Former President Barack Obama has surprised the WNBA All-Stars at their practice at his new Presidential Center. Obama walked in from a side door much to the surprise of the 22 All-Stars. Obama says “the way the game has been growing lately and the way the game has been picking up people have been paying attention to your excellence. … It has been a sight to see.” This was the first professional sport to use the basketball court at the center which opened in June. Obama went to the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles in February.

Her parents taught her never to use her limb difference as an excuse and to give her all in everything she does. This summer, she is set to pitch and play outfield for the Los Angeles Queens. She has perfected a fielding style that involves quickly moving the glove from the nub of her right arm to her left hand. After facing challenges batting against high-velocity pitching, she sought help online and was flooded with support.
Spain coach De la Fuente says Argentina’s conduct after World Cup final was ‘unacceptable’
GENEVA (AP) — As FIFA investigates Argentina’s conduct after the World Cup final, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has described the incidents as “intolerable and unacceptable.” FIFA has asked a disciplinary prosecutor to report back on testy on-field confrontations after Spain’s 1-0 win in extra time Sunday to dethrone the defending champion. Argentina’s Leandro Paredes physically tangled with Spain players Eric Garcia and Gavi. Spain captain Rodri was hit in the stomach running past Argentina’s Nahuel Molina. De la Fuente tells Spanish public broadcaster TVE “it cannot be allowed.” FIFA has given no timetable for its investigation.

Aaron Donald’s potential comeback bid, Patrick Mahomes’ recovery and several quarterback battles are just a few of the top NFL storylines entering training camp. The reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots opened camp on Friday, joining the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers. The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers report on Saturday, and the remaining 26 teams start on Tuesday. Ten teams have new head coaches, 21 have new offensive coordinators and 14 brought in new defensive coordinators.
Jürgen Klopp starts Germany coach job with talk of resigning
Germany has hired Jürgen Klopp to coach its national team, giving the ex-Liverpool manager a daunting task to turn around the fortunes of a squad which failed yet again at the World Cup. Klopp signed a contract to coach Germany through to the 2030 World Cup, the German soccer federation says as Klopp was presented at a news conference. Klopp warns the German media he’ll quit if he believes they’re intruding on his family’s privacy and also hints Germany could be his last job in coaching. He replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who quit after Germany’s loss to Paraguay meant it failed to reach the last 16 of a men’s World Cup for the third time in a row.
Georgia tops preseason media poll to win SEC championship in 2026
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Georgia is the preseason pick to win the Southeastern Conference championship. That’s according to voters attending the league’s annual media days event in Tampa. The Bulldogs received 88 of 164 votes to reach the title game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in early December. Texas was the second choice, with 57 votes, and Mississippi a distant third. Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU and Kentucky also received votes. Only 10 times since 1992 has the media’s preseason predicted champion proceeded to win the SEC title game. Media also voted on preseason All-SEC teams, with Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss edging Texas’ Arch Manning for first-team quarterback.
