Wilkesboro woman arrested for drug trafficking, bond set at 500K
ASHE COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – A Wilkesboro woman’s bond was set at $500,000 after she was arrested for allegedly trafficking a lethal amount of opioids, police said.
Deanna Loper, 30, was arrested June 23 in Ashe County and charged with two felony counts of trafficking opium or heroin.
Arrest records say Loper was in possession of, and traveling with, 8.4 grams of buprenorphine, a lethal “partial opioid.”
She was held at the Catawba County Jail. Her bond was set at $500,000 on Saturday, July 18.
2 killed, 7 hurt in Asheville shooting possibly tied to prior gun violence
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Asheville Police Department said it is investigating after two people were killed and several others were shot on Sunday.
Police said officers were called to the 250 block of Biltmore Avenue around 2:20 a.m. to reports of shots being fired and multiple people being hit.
Officers said when they arrived, they found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
Seven additional people sustained injuries and were taken to Mission Hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not being released at this time, officials said.
According to Interim Police Chief Jackie Stepp, Dalton Distillery was letting out Saturday night. Then all the people went into the parking lot of Smile Starters located next door, where the majority of the shooting happened.
Police said numerous shell casings and other valuable evidence were collected at the scene.
At this time, investigators believe that the shooting may be related to a prior gun violence incident.
Chief Stepp said the location of the suspects is currently unknown.
According to police, Biltmore Avenue near Short Coxe Avenue, as well as Short Coxe Avenue to Southside Avenue, were briefly closed due to the investigation. The roads have since been reopened.
