Grassy Creek man faces felony larceny charges for equipment theft

WEST JEFFERSON — Authorities charged a Grassy Creek man with felony larceny charges after he allegedly stole various tools and equipment, totaling $26,820, from the same victim on May 31, according to court records.

Daniel Ray Phipps, 35, of Old Highway 16, allegedly stole a $7,200 commercial paint sprayer, two commercial blowers, valued at $6,000, a $3,200 tar machine, and a double axle dump trailer, with an estimated value of $10,000, according to a West Jefferson Police Department arrest warrant.

Authorities also charged Phipps with misdemeanor larceny after allegedly stealing three traffic cones valued at $105 and five traffic channelizer cones valued at $315.

Court officials issued Phipps a $15,000 secured bond. He made his first appearance in Ashe County District Court on July 2.
