Public Service Announcement: Town of Boone Parking Updates, Effective July 1, 2026

BOONE, N.C. – June 30, 2026 – The Town of Boone would like to inform residents and visitors of several parking updates that will take effect on July 1, 2026. These changes include an investment in downtown parking infrastructure, updates to the Downtown Boone Employee
Sticker Permit Program, an increased permit fee for the Daniel Boone Park parking area, and an updated parking fine for vehicles exceeding posted time limits.

Investing in Downtown Boone Parking Infrastructure
The Boone Town Council approved a $600,000 investment in downtown Boone’s parking infrastructure. This investment will fund upgrades to parking meter heads with newer, more user friendly equipment, replace broken meter heads throughout downtown, and support additional improvements to the Town’s parking system.

Updates to the Downtown Boone Employee Sticker Permit Program
Last year, the Boone Town Council launched the Downtown Boone Employee Sticker Permit Program to help make parking more affordable for downtown employees. Through the program, designated parking meters were reduced to a rate of 20 cents per hour, allowing employees who purchased a sticker to park in these discounted spaces.

After gathering feedback from the Downtown Boone Development Association and downtown business owners, the Town has made the following updates to the program:
 Three spaces on Burrell Street have been removed from the program.
 Five spaces on King Street, near First Baptist Church, have been removed from the program and returned to public parking.

 Five new employee parking spaces have been added near the Watauga County Courthouse (842 West King Street).
PO Box 192, Boone, NC 28607
Employees interested in participating in the program can purchase a sticker at the Town of Boone Parking Office, located on the lower level of Town Hall (567 West King Street). A current pay stub, valid photo ID, vehicle information, and license plate number are required. The program is limited to 50 stickers, and all spaces remain available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Daniel Boone Park Permit Fee Update
The annual permit fee for the Daniel Boone Park parking area will increase to $750 for the August through May permit period. Students interested in purchasing a permit for the upcoming school year are encouraged to contact the Town of Boone Parking Department at (828) 268-6229 for more information.

Updated Parking Fine
The Boone Town Council also approved an increase to the parking fine for vehicles exceeding the posted time limit at downtown parking meters and kiosk lots. The updated fine is $40 per violation, and is intended to encourage compliance with parking regulations, improve turnover in high-demand parking areas, and make it easier for residents, visitors, and customers to find convenient short-term parking. By increasing parking availability throughout the downtown district, the Town hopes to support local businesses while making the best use of its limited public parking resources.
