MUNICH (AP) — Ousmane Dembélé has scored early to give Paris Saint-Germain a 1-0 lead against Bayern Munich at halftime in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia raced clear after playing a simple one-two with Fabián Ruiz in midfield, then picked out the unmarked Dembélé to sweep the ball inside the top left corner in the third minute. It gives PSG, the defending champion, a 6-4 lead on aggregate after edging their encounter 5-4 in the first leg in Paris last week. The winner will face Arsenal in the final in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30, after the Gunners defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 on Tuesday to progress 2-1 on aggregate.

Joel Embiid is out for Game 2 of the 76ers’ series against the Knicks with ankle and hip injuries

NEW YORK (AP) — Joel Embiid will miss Game 2 of the Philadelphia 76ers’ second-round series against the New York Knicks with a sprained right ankle and a sore right hip. The 76ers added their center to the injury report early Wednesday, hours before trying to even the Eastern Conference semifinals. Embiid struggled through a short night in the Knicks’ 137-98 romp in Game 1, scoring 14 points on 3-for-11 shooting in 25 minutes before the starters were benched with the game out of reach. Embiid returned from a late-season appendectomy during Philadelphia’s first-round series against Boston and helped the 76ers overcome a 3-1 deficit.

Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo will not run in the Preakness Stakes next weekend. Trainer Cherie DeVaux announced the plan to skip the Preakness and set sights on the Belmont Stakes on June 6 at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. Golden Tempo is the third Derby winner in the past five years not to be entered in the Preakness. For various reasons, it is the sixth time in eight years the Preakness will happen with no chance of a Triple Crown on the line. American Pharoah in 2015 and Justify in 2018 are the only horses to sweep all three races over the past four decades.

Astros star Carlos Correa faces season-ending surgery on a torn tendon in his ankle

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston’s Carlos Correa has a torn tendon in his left ankle that will require season-ending surgery. The star infielder gave the update on his injury Wednesday. Correa was injured the day prior while taking swings in the batting cage before a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Correa was on crutches and in a walking boot Wednesday morning at the ballpark after seeing a foot specialist. He said he would seek some other opinions before scheduling the surgery. Correa said the injury was a complete tear and his recovery is expected to take six to eight months.

Women’s pro hockey is coming to Hockeytown with PWHL adding expansion franchise in Detroit

Women’s professional hockey is coming to Hockeytown, with the PWHL designating Detroit as the first of what could become four expansion markets for next season. Detroit’s selection is the result of the tight relationship the PWHL has with the city’s Ilitch family, whose holdings include the Red Wings, and the success the league has enjoyed in playing four neutral-site games at the NHL team’s home. KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — Amputee football offers a sense of community and healing in Rwanda, a country that went through its darkest time in 1994 during its genocide. The seven-a-side version of soccer sees players roam the field on crutches and goalkeepers with one arm. The sport has grown steadily over the past decade in Rwanda. The country has five women’s professional teams and 10 for men. Rwanda hopes to field players in next year’s women amputee football World Cup. The country was represented by a single player at the first edition of the competition in 2024.
