BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State’s women’s cross country team placed five runners in the top nine and finished second behind ACC program Florida State at the nine-team Covered Bridge Open on the Kennedy Trails in Boone.
App State totaled 32 points, five more than the Seminoles, who claimed the top three individual spots. The Mountaineers’ top individual finisher was senior Phylissa Greeley, who took fourth in 17:37.25. She was followed by senior Katelyn Butler in fifth (17:55.39) and senior Emily Fedders in sixth (17:56.50).
App State sophomore Samantha Kolor was eighth in 17:58.24, and freshman Izzy Evely claimed ninth in 17:58.39. Rounding out the top seven for the Mountaineers was sophomore Sarah Hajnos in 14th (18:08.04) and senior Elisa Sargent in 15th (18:10.10).
Some of App State’s other top finishers were junior Megan Scannell (20th, 18:31.27), junior Sarah Venable (24th, 18:39.32), senior Erin Jameson (30th, 18:55.07), sophomore Annika Merkh (36th, 19:12.26) and Natalie Richardson (37th, 19:13.41).
Appalachian’s women return to action Friday, Sept. 14, at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton.
BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State’s men’s cross country team put four runners in the top 10 and finished second behind ACC program Florida State at the 10-team Covered Bridge Open on the Kennedy Trails in Boone.
App State totaled 41 points, 15 more than the Seminoles and 27 fewer than third-place East Tennessee State.
The Mountaineers’ top individual finishers were senior Collin Loy, who took fifth in 25:43.28, and sophomore Isaac Benz, who was sixth in 25:43.53. Their other top-10 runners were freshman Ryan Brown (ninth, 25:50.42) and sophomore Michael Flanagan (10th, 25:41.67).
Sophomore Ian Foley rounded out the scoring for App State, placing 14th in 26:01.97, and the next three finishers in the meet were freshman Dakota Mendenhall (15th, 26:04.40), sophomore Ben Cignarale (16th, 26:06.47) and sophomore Lawson Benfield (17th, 26:07.13).
App State’s other top-40 runners were freshman Sawyer Gwyn-Rowsom (21st, 26:19.59), sophomore Luke Bennett (27th, 26:39.84), sophomore Zachary Mercer (34th, 27:01.87) and junior Jacob Toczko (36th, 27:10.90).
Appalachian’s men return to action Friday, Sept. 14, at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton.
