BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State senior Phylissa Greeley has been named Sun Belt Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
This marks the first Sun Belt Cross Country Runner of the Week honor for Greeley.
At the season opening Covered Bridge Open on Friday in Boone, Greeley crossed fourth overall in a field of over 90 runners in a 5k PR time of 17:37.30, helping the Mountaineers claim second place in a nine team field.
The time for Greeley ranks as the seventh fastest 5k time in App State women’s cross country history and is the sixth fastest 5k time ever run by a senior in program history.
Appalachian State will be off this weekend and will run again on Sept. 14 and Sept. 15. A group of runners will compete at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m., with another group running at the Winthrop Asics Invitational on Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.
