The tandems of Cassie McLay (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community)/María José Zacarias (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Centro Deportivo) (A1 Doubles) and Virginia Poggi (Civitavecchia, Italy/Ernest Hemingway)/Sandra Anglesjö (Norrköping, Östergötland, Sweden/Fria Läroverken) (B2 Doubles) finished a combined 6-0 to earn flight championships. In their first fall tournaments, McLay and Poggi put on solid efforts with three wins each in singles and doubles action.

McLay/Zacarias dealt Halli Trinkle/Elizabeth Nowak (CofC) a 6-1 win in the opening round before downing Rocio Safont/Emma Scott (Charlotte) a 6-2 defeat. In the title round, the duo cruised to a 6-2 victory against a second Charlotte pairing in Immie Cowper/Jenna Dean.

Poggi and Anglesjö started their run with a 6-2 triumph against Ava Turner/Clara Errard (CofC). The Black and Gold partners earned a 7-5 win over Wofford’s Alexandra Hildell/Brittney Wilbur to advance to the finals. Poggi/Anglesjö defeated Alexa Tiefel/Maria Khomchenko in convincing 6-0 fashion.

Teodora Sevo (Futog, Serbia/Ucenika Futog)/Kate Earnhardt (Concord, N.C./Concord) teamed up for a 6-3 win over Charleston Southern in the first round in the A2 Doubles Flight.

In singles, McLay defeated a pair of opponents from Charlotte in the A1 Flight while downing Jenna Vroman in a come-from-behind three-set win, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). McLay’s second win against the 49ers led to a fifth-place finish against Imperato in straight sets. Poggi won her first-round matchup against Alicja Zdunika of Coastal Carolina, 6-1, 7-5. After a semifinal setback, Poggi finished fifth in the A2 Flight with back-to-back wins over Charleston Southern and Wofford

After falling in the first round in the A1 Singles bracket, Earnhardt bounced back with a pair of victories. The redshirt-sophomore downed Michelle Schmitz (Charleston Southern) before upending Iryna Vardanian (Coastal Carolina), the Sun Belt’s reigning Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, in a tough three-set affair (6-2, 5-7, 13-11).
