WTEN: Daniel Named Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – After her stellar performance last week in Sun Belt play, Appalachian State University women’s tennis senior Jeannez Daniel (Port Charlotte, Fla./Florida Virtual) was named the Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Daniel earns her first weekly Sun Belt honor after going 2-0 in both singles and doubles play last week, helping the Mountaineers go unblemished with a 2-0 mark. App State
earned a 4-2 win over Coastal Carolina on the road in the Sun Belt opener before defeating Arkansas State, 4-3. It’s the first time since 2013-14 the Apps have won multiple league matches, while
it’s the first time since 2012-13 the Black and Gold have won back-to-back conference contests on the road.

The senior clinched the match in singles play against the Chanticleers on Court No. 4 in a 7-6, 6-4 win over Zduniak, Alicja, capping off a stellar day after her and Rebecca Morse won their doubles match. Against
A-State, Daniel/Morse tied up the doubles portion with a 6-3 triumph against Amelia Guevremont/Pornpawee Pramethon. Later in the contest, Daniel served up a 6-2, 6-3 straight-set win against Anita Detlava
in the No. 3 position.

Daniel is playing some of her best tennis right now, where she is 4-1 over her last five matches in singles and 6-1 in doubles.

App State is 8-4 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt competition. The Mountaineers will host a pair of matches this weekend, facing 13-1 on Friday at 10 a.m. against South Alabama before facing Troy on Sunday at 10 a.m.
