SAVANNAH, Ga. – Appalachian State University women’s tennis (5-3) bounced back with a 7-0 sweep over Savannah State on Thursday morning at Tiger Tennis Courts.

Following a 4-3 loss to UNF on Tuesday, the Mountaineers did another solid job of bouncing back as they are now 3-0 coming off a loss. It’s also the first shutout of the season for the Black and Gold.

After surrendering the doubles point in the last two contests, the Apps captured all three doubles contests to take a 1-0 lead into singles.

Kate Earnhardt (Concord, N.C./Concord)/Jeannez Daniel (Port Charlotte, Fla./Florida Virtual) downed Christ Turner/Sofia Shut’ko, 6-0, for their first win as a tandem this season. Clinching for App was Teodora Sevo (Futog, Serbia/Ucenika Futog) and Sandra Anglesjö (Norrköping, Östergötland, Sweden/Fria Lároverken, Norrköping), who moved to 5-1 following a 6-1 triumph over Ekaterina Vorobeva/Casi Gilbert.

Heidi Swope (Weddington, N.C./Weddington)/María José Zacarias (La Loma Centro Deportivo) finished off doubles with a 6-4 win over Sansriti Ranjan/Muskaan Ranjan.

Sevo continued her solid day after a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Shut’ko to give Appalachian a 2-0 lead. Anglesjö notched her second singles win of the season with a 6-0, 6-3 topping over Turner. Sealing the match was Earnhardt after her 6-1, 6-2 victory against M. Ranjan.

Swope concluded her day with a straight-set victory, continuing her stellar singles season thus far with a 7-1 overall mark. Swope won her match, 6-3, 6-1 over Gilbert.

App didn’t stop there, as Daniel came away with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Vorobeva, while Rebecca Morse (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Cypress Creek) notched a win over S. Ranjan in straight sets to complete the sweep.

Appalachian will have two matches tomorrow. The Mountaineers will face North Carolina Central at 11 a.m. in Durham before facing No. 11 North Carolina State at 5 p.m in Raleigh.
