SAN MARCOS, Texas – App State women’s soccer suffered a 2-0 decision to Texas State on Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
App State falls to 4-7-2 (1-3-1 SBC) while Texas State improves to 6-5-2 (2-2-1 SBC).
Facing one of the best defenses in the Sun Belt, App State couldn’t get any rhythm on offense to come up with clean looks at the net, attempting seven shots with two on goal.
The Bobcats scored on an own goal as the ball deflected off an App State defender to put the hosts up 1-0.
Ava Dawson (Greenville, N.C./DH Conley) had a chance to tie things up following a corner kick with a shot on goal towards the bottom of the net. The Sun Belt’s leading goalkeeper, Heather Martin, came up with the stop to keep the score at 1-0.
Appalachian had two more attempts by Sunna Thorbjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Haukar) and Olivia Cohen (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) later in the half, but both were off target, making the score 1-0 in TXST’s favor going into the break.
The Bobcats tacked on one more goal early in the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
The App offense did attempt four more shots with Mary Perkins (Huntersville, N.C./Cox Mill) attempting three and one goal. However, the Black and Gold couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities.
App State returns to action next Sunday at Little Rock to conclude its three-match road trip.
