BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women’s soccer (1-2) suffered a 3-1 setback to Maryland (2-1) on Friday evening at Ludwig Field.
Looking to build off last weekend’s win, the Mountaineers got off to a strong start in the opening period, as Sarah Murphy (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) notched the first goal of her career at 21′ to give App the 1-0 advantage.
The Mountaineers held the Terrapins at bay until the score was tied up in the 33rd minute, 1-1, which would stay as the tally going into the break.
Appalachian and the hosts stayed at a 1-1 deadlock for the majority of the second period until the Terps scored in the 63rd minute to take a 2-1 edge. The Terrapins later added the third goal with six minutes left.
Taylor Ray (Indian Trail, N.C./Porter Ridge) played all 90 minutes in the frame with a season-high six saves. Jessica Easley (Waxhaw, N.C./Marvin Ridge), Ava Dawson (Greenville, N.C./DH Conley), Alexa Asher (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook), Molly Niewald (West End, N.C./Pinecrest) and Emmily Cowie (Davidson, N.C./W.A.
