WSOC: App State Hosts Little Rock in Regular-Season Finale

 

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women’s soccer (8-8-1, 5-4-0 SBC) hosts Little Rock (12-3-2, 7-1-1 SBC) at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. to end the regular season. 

A Win for App State 
– The Mountaineers improve to 9-8-1 and 6-4 in Sun Belt play
– Would give App its first winning season in conference play since 2015
– Snap the Trojans’ six-match win streak
– Move App to 6-5 at home, the first winning record at Ted Mack since 2016
– End a two-game skid against LR

About the Mountaineers
App State aims to go into the Sun Belt Conference Championship with some momentum. Appalachian went 1-1 last weekend with a 3-0 win at ULM and fell in heartbreaking fashion to Arkansas State in overtime, 2-1. Four different Mountaineers scored over the weekend. Despite not going 2-0 on the road, the Mountaineers averaged two goals through the two contests. App went scoreless in three of the four matches beforehand. 

Sun Belt Race
App State and Little Rock’s matchup is the final Sun Belt contest before the tournament. The Mountaineers have a chance to get into the fourth seed with a win on Sunday. App State is currently in the seventh spot right now. One point separates the 4-7 seeds. 

Scouting Little Rock
The Trojans come into Sunday’s contest with a six-match win streak and 7-0-1 stretch in the past eight games. Six Trojans have at least three goals with Jaclyn Purvine boasting  a team-high nine goals. With her four assists, she has a team-best 22 points, while Arola Aparicio Gili is second with 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists) and Doro Greulich (4 goals, 7 assists) has 15 points. Sara Johannsdottir has been the primary goalkeeper between the posts, seeing 1473 minutes of action. She has a .67 goals against average and a .861 save percentage.

Series History
App and LR are tied 2-2-1 in the all-time series. The Trojans have won the last two matches in the series including a 3-1 win last season.

What’s Next
App will head to Foley, Ala. for the Sun Belt Championship. The Mountaineers will wait for their opponent depending on the outcome of the match.
