BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State senior Randall Diabe has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Month for November.
Before he posted a win against top-20 opponent Malik McDonald of No. 7 NC State on Tuesday, Diabe went 10-3 at 197 pounds in November with two other dual meet wins against teams with a top-15 national ranking: Rutgers and North Carolina.
Diabe’s 3-1 mark at the Hokie Open in mid-November included a 6-4 decision against The Citadel’s Sawyer Root, a returning NCAA qualifier who was ranked 15th nationally, and a 10-2 major decision against Campbell starter Austin McNeill. Diabe had a 6-5 decision against Rutgers’ Matthew Correnti at the Northeast Duals, and he capped a third-place finish at the Keystone Classic with a 5-2 decision in the Tiebreaker-2 period against Rider’s Ethan Laird.
A native of Greensboro, N.C., Diabe closed November with dual wins against North Carolina’s Hunter Queen (10-2 major decision) and Ohio’s Nathan Hall (12-4 major decision).
With four wins by major decision in November and the recent victory against NC State, Diabe will take a 56-39 career record into a home dual against Oklahoma in Varsity Gym on Dec. 16.
