Wilkes Medical Center Foundation Awards $46,000 Grant To Wilkes Community College Scholarships

Wilkes Medical Center Foundation awards $46,000 grant to Wilkes Community College for health sciences scholarships

WILKESBORO, N.C. – The Wilkes Medical Center Foundation has awarded Wilkes Community College (WCC) a $46,000 grant for the establishment of the WCC Health Sciences Completion Scholarship.

WCC President, Dr. Jeff Cox stated, “We are so appreciative of the Wilkes Medical Center Foundation for awarding this grant to support our health sciences students.  Sometimes, the financial strain students are under as they are completing their last semester can become overwhelming and lead to students dropping out of a program or borrowing money at high rates of interest. This scholarship will help our students stay the course and graduate, hopefully, debt-free!”

The scholarship will assist second-year health sciences students with fees associated with their program of study. With less financial strain, students can focus on obtaining a healthcare credential that will allow them to earn a sustainable family income.

To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled in a WCC Health Sciences division program with at least 75% of their degree completed; eligible to sit for the credentialing exam at the end of the term (if applicable); and be in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA.

WCC VP of Instruction, Dr. Yolanda Wilson stated, “We are incredibly grateful to the Wilkes Medical Center Foundation for offering financial support to eligible health sciences students for their review fees and required screenings for employment.  Offering resources to our students who have worked incredibly hard to make it this far in their programs is a tremendous sign of support and we appreciate their generosity.”
