VB: Four Mountaineers Named All-NCCSIA in Volleyball

BOONE, N.C. — Four members of the Appalachian State volleyball team were named All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Tuesday.

Emma Longley and Becky Porter were tabbed as First Team selections, while Emma Reilly and Kara Spicer were named Second Team. Nominations were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by NCCSIA members.

Longley earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2018, after ranking fourth in the league in kills per set, averaging 3.72. In all, she tallied a career-high 406 kills and posted 10 or more kills in 24 matches.

Porter was tabbed as First Team All-Sun Belt and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year. She led the conference in assist average (10.83) and had a team-high 12 double-doubles. Porter was also honored as Sun Belt Setter of the Week three times during the 2018 season.

Reilly finished second in the Sun Belt in total digs (500) and digs per set (4.50) on her way to Second Team All-Sun Belt accolades. She reached double figures in digs in all but two of App State’s matches this season and had 20 or more digs in eight contests.

Spicer enjoyed another strong season in 2018, earning Second Team All-Sun Belt honors. She ranked second on the team with a .293 hitting percentage and tallied a team-high 109 blocks (81 assists, 15 solo).

The Mountaineers concluded the 2018 season with a 22-9 record, marking the most victories for the program since the 2015 season. App State also won the Sun Belt East Division title for the first time since the conference moved to a division format in the 2016 season, reached the Sun Belt Tournament championship match and made an appearance in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
