BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State volleyball setter Sam Bickley has been named Sun Belt Volleyball Freshman of the Week and libero Emma Reilly has been tabbed as Sun Belt Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week the league announced on Monday.
Bickley posted 92 assists (11.50 a/s), 18 digs (2.25 d/s) and 8 kills (1.00 k/s) in a pair of Mountaineer victories over Georgia State and Georgia Southern this weekend.
In Friday’s win 3-1 win over Georgia State, she tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 44 assists (11.00 a/s) and 11 digs (2.75 d/s), to go along with six kills (1.50 k/s) on a .600 hitting percentage. On Sunday, she posted 48 assists (12.00 a/s), seven digs (1.75 d/s), a pair of kills and a pair of blocks in a 3-1 victory over Georgia Southern.
On the season, Bickley leads the league with 561 total assists and sits second in the Sun Belt in assists per set, averaging 10.39.
Reilly, who earned Sun Belt Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season, posted a pair of 20-plus dig efforts on the weekend, tallying a total of 45 (5.63 d/s). Against Georgia State on Friday, she finished with a match-high 22 digs (5.5 d/s) and two service aces. In Sunday’s victory over Georgia Southern, she posted a match-high 23 digs (5.75 d/s) and added three service aces.
Also during the weekend, Reilly moved into the top-10 in program history in career digs and now sits in eighth place all-time with 1,197.
Reilly currently leads the Sun Belt in total digs with 291 and is the lone player in the league averaging over 5.00 digs per set, averaging a league-best 5.20. In addition, she leads the league in service aces with 32 and is tied for the conference lead in service aces per set, averaging 0.57.
App State, who stands at 6-9 on the season and 2-0 Sun Belt play, will begin a five-match road trip on Friday at Louisiana at 7:30 p.m. EST.
