An investigation continues in the death of Diane Goss, age 79, of West Jefferson that occurred in the early morning hours of August 19, 2018. Jesse “Billy” Ray Hubbard has been charged with the murder of Goss. Preliminary results from an autopsy performed August 21, 2018 indicate that Goss died from multiple blunt force trauma to the head. Investigators are piecing together evidence; tracing the steps of both subjects through out the course of the day of Saturday, August 18, 2018. Investigators have been able to seize three (3) additional firearms that Hubbard sold through out the day, resulting in additional charges.
Investigators are confident that the story Hubbard tells of the events that occurred during the early morning hours are incorrect, as evidence shows, multiple discrepancies in his story. Investigators continue to look for additional evidence that will assist in the case.
In addition to Hubbard’s murder charge, he has now been charged with 4 counts of Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He remains in the Ashe County Jail under no bond, with his next court date set for September 6th.
