Wilkesboro, N.C. – The Wilkes Community College Small Business Center has a variety of seminars scheduled for July that support the development of new businesses and the growth of existing businesses. These seminars are offered at no charge to participants unless otherwise noted; however, attendees must pre-register to participate.

Positioning Your Business for Post Pandemic Success – July 8, 2020, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Online

How to plan, prepare, and execute the re-opening and management of your business for success in our new reality:

  • Minimize your liability risk
  • Make your customers feel safe
  • Effectively market your business
  • Keep costs down

We will include real-world small business examples that inspire participants to take action immediately. The question is not how we get back to normal, but how to thrive in the new reality!

Selling on Facebook Marketplace – July 14, 2020, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. – Online

If you want to be successful, you cannot sit back and wait for customers to come to you – reach out to them. So, where are they? Facebook. It is the largest social network in the world, with more than 1.1 billion people logging in daily to spend an average of 58.5 minutes on the platform. That is insane. If you sell products online and you do not have a Facebook shop, you are missing a huge opportunity. This seminar will show how easy it is to “Sell to the World” for free.

Business Tax Essentials – July 21, 2020, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Online

The NC Department of Revenue in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will present an exciting seminar focused on tax responsibilities for small business owners! You will learn basic North Carolina requirements and gain an understanding of the laws and obligations you must meet to be tax compliant. Topics covered will include withholding from employees, sales and use tax requirements, and more.

Sales and Use Tax – July 28, 2020, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Online

The NC Department of Revenue will host a sales and use tax workshop for small business owners. The workshop will discuss the basics of sales and use taxes including registering for a sales and use tax account, learning about the most common types of sales and use taxes collected, and preparing and filing a sales and use tax return. This hands-on workshop is intended to help small business owners better understand their sales and use tax obligations and the proper procedure for filing and paying sales and use tax returns. At the end of the seminar, there will be a question and answer session with the presenter and networking possibilities with other business owners.
