Wilkesboro, N.C. – The Wilkes Community College Small Business Center has a variety of seminars scheduled for October that support the development of new businesses and the growth of existing businesses. These seminars are offered at no charge to participants unless otherwise noted; however, attendees must pre-register to participate. 

 

Understanding Bookkeeping for the Clueless Small Business Owner – October 1, 2019, 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Wilkes Campus

Bookkeeping is often a scary topic that many business owners prefer to avoid, but it is the first step to reaching higher profitability and more money in the bank. In this class, we will take a very conversational approach to help you understand the basics of recording income and expenses. We’ll also look at the three major financial statements and learn how to use your numbers to help reach your business goals. This seminar is great for both new business owners and seasoned entrepreneurs who want to understand bookkeeping better.

 

How to Start a Small Business – October 1, 2019, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Webinar

Understand the basics of starting a business in this seminar that takes you from idea to opportunity. Learn key strategies for start-up, financing, and marketing as well as important information about legal issues, licensing, zoning, operations and more. Realize the importance of a self-assessment and how to evaluate the feasibility of your business idea. Discover the resources available to help you start and operate a successful business.

 

Effective Marketing Strategies for the Small Business Owner – October 22, 2019, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – Wilkes Campus

There are endless options for small business owners to market/promote their businesses and it is often hard to determine what is best. This class will review the four basics of business, help attendees understand where their businesses stand and create a quick demographic and psychographic snapshot of their customers (both real and prospects) to then decide the most profitable and most easily adoptable marketing strategies for their specific business and needs.

 

Business Tax Essentials – October 22, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. – Webinar

The NC Department of Revenue in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will present an exciting seminar focused on tax responsibilities for small business owners! You will learn the basic North Carolina requirements, gain an understanding of the laws and obligations you must meet to be tax compliant. Topics covered will include withholding from employees, sales and use tax requirements and more.
