NEW ORLEANS, La. — After posting the top 5,000-meter run time in the Sun Belt, Appalachian State distance runner Isaac Benz has been named Sun Belt Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
It marks the first Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week honor for Benz.
At the unscored season opening 49er Classic, Benz placed sixth of 27 runners in the 5,000-meter run invite with a PR time of 14:50.55. His time ranked as the fastest time in the Sun Belt during the opening weekend of competition and ranked as the 11th fastest time in the East Region.
His time is also the fastest time in the 5,000-meter run at App State since the 2016 outdoor season.
Benz and the Mountaineers will compete again on Friday at Saturday at the ADIDAS Winthrop Invitational.
