STRUCTURE FIRE LEADS TO ARSON ARREST
JEFFERSON, N.C. – Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of
37-year-old Joshua Brandon Weaver of Jefferson, NC.
On Friday, March 25 at 8:03 am, Jefferson Fire Department
responded to Friendship Baptist Church Rd. in reference to a structure
fire. Initial statements led to the search of a male who allegedly fled
the scene shortly before the Jefferson Fire Departments’ arrival.
Ashe County Sheriff Deputies as well as N.C. Probation Officers
began a search of the immediate area and were able to locate the
subject. Upon being found, the suspect threatened officers stating he
had a firearm in his pocket. After a short altercation, the suspect was
apprehended and taken into custody.
A joint investigation was conducted with the Ashe County Fire
Marshall’s Office and NC SBI, concluding that the fire was intentional. Detectives with the
Sheriff’s Office began interviews immediately, which resulted in the arrest warrants being
served on Weaver later that day.
Joshua Brandon Weaver, 37 years old, of Jefferson, NC. Weaver’s charges include:
• Felony – Second Degree Arson
• Misdemeanor – Resisting Public Officer
• Several Probation Violations were also issued.
Weaver is being held at the Ashe County Detention Center under an $82,500.00 secured
Fire departments were able to extinguish the fire quickly and provide a safe scene. Agencies
that responded to assist were Jefferson Fire Dept., West Jefferson Fire Dept., New River Fire
Dept., Ashe Medics, Ashe County Rescue Squad, Ashe County Emergency Management,
Blue Ridge Electric, Ashe County Animal Control, and Watauga County Fire Marshal.
