On 10/26/2019 at 7:31 am the Boone Fire department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 220 Hummingbird Hills in Boone. At 7:39 am, BFD units arrived at 220 Hummingbird Hills to find a single family dwelling well involved in fire. After it was confirmed by fire personnel that all occupants were out of the residence, BFD crews began fire suppression operations and had the fire controlled at 08:08 am. Crews then worked to extinguish any remain hot spots and look for hidden fire. Due to the complexity of these overhaul operations, fire crews remain on scene at the time of this release.
The structure received extensive damage to the main floor and attic area and water damage to the basement. Dollar loss estimates are in excess of $400,000 for the structure and contents.
Fire Investigators with the Boone Fire Department and the Watauga County Fire Marshal’s Office were able to determine the following:
The fire originated in the living room of the structure. The fire then extended through the structure on the main floor. The cause of the fire is currently still under investigation.
