JEFFERSON, NC- Ashe County Emergency Management is reminding the community that as we head into this Memorial Day weekend it is more important than ever to practice appropriate social distancing to stay healthy in the face of this current COVID-19 pandemic.
While in past Memorial Day weekends we’ve all likely found ourselves at crowded beaches, busy parks or packed shopping malls, this Memorial Day weekend presents challenges that we’ve never faced before. This year, in an effort to avoid the crowds, the best advice is to plan the type of outdoor activities that afford ample distancing from others. Even a weekend of low key backyard activities like a cookout with immediate family or household members may provide for a fun, festive and most importantly healthy Memorial Day weekend.
When leaving the house for any activities remember the “Three Ws”- Wear, Wait, Wash.
-Wear a cloth face covering if you will be with other people.
-Wait 6 feet apart. Avoid close contact.
-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
These actions can protect our families not only during this holiday weekend, but anytime we leave the house. Our state will continue to take cautious step forward to ease restrictions while the virus is still circulating. Following “Three Ws” is a great way to do your part to stay healthy as we move through the stages of reopening and getting our lives back to normal safely and responsibly.
