Erin Jackson does not want to be the only Black woman to win Winter Olympics individual gold

MILWAUKEE (AP) — American speedskater Erin Jackson is the first Black woman to win an individual Winter Olympics gold medal in any sport. She wants to make sure she is not the last. Jackson will be at the Milan Cortina Games in February to defend the title she won in the 500 meters at Beijing four years ago. She also will be racing in the 1,000 meters. She has made it a goal to increase the number of minority women in her sport and wants to start a foundation after she retires from competition.

Bills QB Josh Allen says he had surgery for broken bone in right foot

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen said on Thursday that he recently had surgery for a broken bone in his right foot, and expects to be fully healthy for the start of spring practices. Allen said he broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot in getting hurt late in the second quarter of a 23-20 win at Cleveland on Dec. 21. Allen finished the game and the season by playing through the injury. Though walking on crutches and wearing a protective boot on Thursday, Allen said he would have been able to play if Buffalo had a game this week.

Some blind fans to experience Super Bowl with tactile device that tracks ball

Some blind and low-vision fans will have unprecedented access to the Super Bowl thanks to a tactile device that tracks the ball, vibrates on key plays and provides real-time audio. The NFL teamed up with OneCourt and Ticketmaster to pilot the game-enhancing experience 15 times during the regular-season during games hosted by five teams. About 10 blind and low-vision fans will have an opportunity to use the same technology at the Super Bowl when Seattle faces New England. With hands on the device, they will feel the location of the ball and hear what’s happening throughout the game.

New SafeSport CEO Fitzgerald Mosley wants to fix things quickly, saying ‘it’s a calling’

DENVER (AP) — Benita Fitzgerald Mosley knows her way around Olympic organizations. Her next stop, though, will be unlike any other. The 1984 Olympic gold medalist starts her new job at the U.S. Center for SafeSport this weekend. She’s in charge of an overhaul of an abuse-fighting agency that has been bombarded by problems since it opened back in 2017. In an interview with The Associated Press, Fitzgerald Mosley says she realizes it’s a tough job but she thinks she’s particularly suited for it. Her plan is to conduct a top-to-bottom assessment of what works and what doesn’t, then go about making changes where they’re needed.

Germany midfielder Goretzka says Trump makes ‘us feel not only German but also European’

MUNICH (AP) — Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka says in an interview with Die Zeit newspaper that U.S. President Donald Trump “has managed to make us feel not only German, but also European.” Goretzka talks in the interview published on Wednesday about the World Cup being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. He suggests Germany and other European teams will be the favorites. He says “Others have caught up, but in the most important game in the world we’re still ahead of every continent. Far from being left behind, Europe will show everyone what’s what on the field.”

Boxer Gervonta Davis arrested on attempted kidnapping and battery charges

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Professional boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis bonded out of a Miami jail following his arrest on charges of attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment and battery. Miami Gardens police says a fugitive task force took Davis into custody on Wednesday in Miami’s Design District. The charges stem from an incident at a Miami Gardens business on Oct. 27, 2025. Thirty-one-year-old Davis has had other run-ins with law enforcement in South Florida. Last summer, he was arrested on domestic violence charges, which were later dropped. Davis, a top contender in boxing, is known for his knockout power and drawing sellout crowds. His attorney called Davis the victim in this case and said he looks forward to presenting his side of the story in court.

Sabalenka into fourth straight Australian Open final and facing Rybakina again

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Aryna Sabalenka has advanced to her fourth consecutive Australian Open final and its a rematch of the 2023 decider against Elena Rybakina. The top-ranked Sabalenka defeated Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-3 and moved to within one victory of a third title in four years at Melbourne Park. Fifth-seeded Rybakina beat sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-6 in the second semifinal. Rybakina was the 2022 Wimbledon champion and runner-up here to Sabalenka three years ago. A point penalty for hindrance against Sabalenka at the start of the fourth game proved to be only a momentary distraction.

Shiffrin, Vonn and other ski racers star in ESPN’s ‘On the Edge’ docuseries leading into Olympics

Before Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn and other World Cup ski racers chase gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics, they will star in a new docuseries that gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it’s like on the circuit. Some of the biggest names in the sport are featured in ESPN’s five-episode series called “On the Edge: World Cup Ski Racing,” which starts Friday. The last episode will air on April 10 and focus on Swiss racer Camille Rast as she reflects on the fatal fire in a bar in the ski resort Crans-Montana during a New Year’s celebration. That episode also looks back at the Olympics.

One of snowboarding’s most valuable skills is also one of its most underappreciated

Shaun White’s early snowboarding days involved riding “switch” or backward, thanks to his mom’s rule to help her keep up. This skill became a foundation for his success. Snowboarding’s complexity lies in spinning four ways, a skill crucial for Olympic success. Chloe Kim and Scotty James have mastered this, with James landing consecutive backside 1440-degree jumps. Riding switch is likened to a right-handed pitcher throwing left-handed. It’s challenging and underappreciated. Snowboarders like Eileen Gu and Mark McMorris emphasize the difficulty and importance of switch riding in competitions, like next month’s Winter Olympics.

Dispute over the Olympic medal stripped from US gymnast Jordan Chiles goes back to Swiss court

GENEVA (AP) — A gymnastics medal disputed by the United States and Romania at the 2024 Paris Olympics is heading for a fresh legal review in a Swiss court. Switzerland’s federal court says its judges sent the “highly exceptional circumstances” of the bronze medal awarded in women’s floor exercise back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to examine new evidence. The event created a celebrated photo featuring bronze medalist Jordan Chiles, Simone Biles and Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade. Chiles was stripped of the bronze because the U.S. was said to have not challenged a score in time. Romania’s Ana Maria Barbosu received the medal. The case rests on a handful of seconds.
