Scam Warning from Ashe County Sheriff’s Office

The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn our community of potential scams floating around the county.

We have had several calls from the public stating that an officer from the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office is calling demanding money for child support and other fees to be paid immediately to avoid an order for arrest. The caller is calling from what looks to be local numbers, and if you call the number back, they will answer “Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.

The callers are using real Ashe County Officers’ names that they have received via social media. They are asking for Money Pak cards or different gift cards for payment.

We want to inform everyone that the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office will never call and ask for payment over the phone or ask for a person to purchase gift cards for payment. This is a BIG RED FLAG.

If you receive a call asking for payment to avoid arrest, simply hang up the call, and if you are concerned, call the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office at 336-846-5600 to report the incident.

Please do not fall victim to this scam.
