Opening May 7: $10,000 Disaster Recovery Grants for Small Businesses

The Backing Small Businesses grant program, supported by American Express, is expanding to support disaster recovery. Applications are open from Wednesday, May 7 through Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Eligible small business owners who have been impacted by a natural disaster since January 2024 can apply for one of 100 available $10,000 grants to aid in their recovery efforts. More details on the application process for 400 grants available under our broader program will be announced in June.

Businesses located in FEMA declared disaster areas are eligible.  American Express is looking for “Locally Significant” Businesses, defined below:

“A small business with local significance is involved in and critical to the surrounding community and local culture. These businesses are often long-standing or legacy businesses that provide continuity and a sense of identity to a neighborhood.

Businesses with local significance have also been intentional about developing core values and a business model that supports their communities or addresses an acute community need. For example, a business that regularly hosts free concerts featuring local artists, or a shop that provides goods or services that are unique to the heritage and culture in the community.”

Go to the link above for full details on this opportunity.

There is an information webinar next Tuesday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  Register for the webinar on the link above.  (BTW – the date for the webinar saying April 14 at the registration tab, but I registered and it is next Tuesday 5/6,  at 2:00 p.m.)

Application Window is May 7 – May 21.  Grant Recipients are awarded in June.

Please let me know if you have questions.
