Federal and state officials crack down on healthcare fraud in the Carolinas
RALEIGH, N.C. – Federal and state officials are cracking down on healthcare fraud schemes in the Carolinas. Nine people are now facing charges, accused of stealing millions from Medicaid in North and South Carolina. The alleged schemes involved submitting fraudulent claims for services that were never given, using stolen patient information.
This is part of a national crackdown that has charged more than 300 people with more than $14 billion in alleged fraud nationwide.
NC Attorney General Jeff Jackson says, “We found out about this when our Medicaid investigation division did some forensic data work and saw some red flags, some very unusual billing practices.”
Authorities are still investigating and encourage anyone with information regarding Medicaid fraud to come forward.
