BOONE, N.C. – App State men’s basketball head coach Dustin Kerns has announced the signing of Xavion Brown (Sacramento, Calif./Sheldon) and RJ Duhart (Boynton Beach, Fla./Boyd Anderson/Northwest Mississippi CC).

Xavion Brown | Guard | 6-3 | 180 | Sacramento, Calif./Sheldon High School
Brown averaged 9.1 points on 53.4 percent shooting, 4.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals at Sheldon High School in Sacramento, Calif. He posted double figures in scoring 15 times and was named Co-Delta League Player of the Year during the 2019-20 season. Brown helped Sheldon win the Delta League title and finish the season ranked No. 5 in the nation by MaxPreps. Sheldon was set to play in the CIF State Semifinals, before COVID-19 canceled the remainder of the tournament.

Kerns on Brown
“We are thrilled about Xavion Brown joining the Mountaineer family. Xavion is a wonderful person and has a great way about him. He comes from one of the best high school programs in the country, Sheldon High School, who was nationally ranked last year and have won a lot. He is an exceptional athlete and provides incredible length on both ends of the floor. His perimeter skill set combined with his playmaking ability for others make his ceiling very high. Above all, Xavion is a great young man who the App State community will love the moment he steps on campus. We are excited about Xavion and his future at App State. Please join us in welcoming Xavion and his mother Kim to the App State family.”

RJ Duhart | Forward | 6-9 | 205 | Boynton Beach, Fla./Boyd Anderson High School/Northwest Mississippi Community College
Duhart comes to the High Country as a transfer from Northwest Mississippi Community College. In 2019-20, he played and started in 23 games averaging 11.9 points on 54.5 percent shooting and a team-high 7.8 rebounds. He also led the Rangers with 47 blocks. He finished the season with four double doubles, including a season-best effort of 24 points and 14 rebounds on Dec. 4. The Rangers posted a 16-10 overall record in 2019-20 and advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

Kerns on Duhart
“We are extremely excited about the addition of RJ Duhart to the Mountaineer family. He is an incredible person and student and is a great fit for our program. RJ is a versatile player who has been well coached by Shane Oakley at Northwest Mississippi Community College. With three years left to play, RJ has a very high ceiling. His skill set is unique for someone with his size and athleticism. He has the ability to score on the perimeter and on the block. This versatility and ability to play anywhere on the floor will make him a great fit with our style of play. There was an instant connection with our staff and RJ, and we are thrilled about RJ becoming a Mountaineer. Please join us in welcoming RJ and his family to the App State family.”

Brown and Duhart join Michael Eads and CJ Huntley as the newest members of the Mountaineers for the 2020-21 season.
