BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State head men’s basketball coach Jim Fox has announced the signing of Anyeuri Castillo (Northcross, Ga./Meadowcreek/Central Georgia Technical College).
“Anyeuri is another player who brings versatility to our program,” said Fox. “People ask what he does well, and I always answer ‘a lot’. He is so skilled offensively and can excel with the ball in his hands, while also having the ability to change the game on the glass.”
As a freshman at Central Georgia Technical College in 2017-18, Castillo (6-7, 205, F) averaged 11.9 points on 55.6 percent shooting and 5.9 rebounds, while leading the team with 72 blocks. He led the Titans to the 2017-18 National Junior College Athletic Association DI District XIII championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
In 16 conference games last season, Castillo averaged 15.3 points on 59.0 percent shooting, to go along with 6.8 rebounds. For his efforts, he was named Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Second Team All-Region and also earned All-Freshman Team honors.
“Anyeuri can guard any position and plays the game with toughness,” added Fox. “I love his hunger to win and will to get better. He will be a great addition to the program.”
Castillo joins J.C. Tharrington (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) and Donovan Gregory (Matthews, N.C./Carmel Christian School) as the newest additions for the Mountaineers.
