KANSAS CITY, Mo. – App State Men’s Basketball senior point guard Myles Tate has been named to the South Atlantic All-District second team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Tuesday. Tate becomes the ninth Mountaineer to be named to an NABC All-District team and the fifth player in the Dustin Kerns era to receive the distinction.
App State has seen three players garner NABC All-District honors in the last two seasons, including a first-team selection last season. Tate was also named to the All-Sun Belt first team on March 3 (goapp.st/TateHuntleySBC).
In his second season with the program, Tate shined as he led the team in scoring, steals and assists while also finishing second in rebounding. Tate’s 16.2 points per game ranked fourth in the Sun Belt, and his 5.2 assists led the league. He became the first App State player to lead the Sun Belt in assists. Additionally, he finished second in the Sun Belt with 60 steals.
Tate tallied 12 20-point games this season, making him one of three players in the conference to record at least that many. He was the only player in the country to average at least 16 points a game, five rebounds a game, five assists a game and 1.9 steals a game. He also became just the 24th player in program history to eclipse 500 single-season points, doing so against Old Dominion at the Sun Belt Tournament on March 7.
The senior tallied two double-doubles for the season and was one of only two Sun Belt players to record a double-double with both assists and rebounds. He was also the first Mountaineer in the Sun Belt era to record two 10-assist games in the same season, doing so against William & Mary on Nov. 24 (10 assists) and against Southern Miss on Feb. 5 (career-high 11 assists).
The NABC introduced a new model for its Division I district alignment this season, with schools arranged by state rather than by conference. The modernized NABC Division I district alignment features 10 geographic regions that each encompass multiple states. Every Division I school in each given state belongs to that state’s corresponding district. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.
