NC State came right back with the next five points to open a 20-15 lead. NC State pushed its lead to 11 points early in the second half, only to see App State respond with six-straight to pull within five points at 39-34 with 15:59 to go. Following a Wolfpack basket, the Mountaineers got a trey from Forrest and layup from Delph to cut the NC State lead to 41-39 with 13:50 remaining.

The Wolfpack pushed their lead back to six points, but App State had another response, cutting its deficit to 50-48 on a layup by Lewis Jr. with 9:18 to play. From there, NC State scored eight consecutive points to build its lead back to 58-48. The Black and Gold trimmed its deficit to nine, but could get no closer the rest of the way.
