OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – App State freshman shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, which was released Friday by the College Baseball Foundation.

The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for the former Texas Tech shortstop who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Lichtenberger has been outstanding for the Mountaineers this season. The Boca Raton, Fla., native has reached base safely in 35 of 36 games played and has produced 21 multi-hit efforts.

Lichtenberger leads the Sun Belt in batting at .407, which ranks 28th nationally and third amongst freshmen. He also ranks among the league leaders in hits (No. 2 – 55), on-base percentage (No. 7 – .478) and doubles (T-No. 5 – 12). In Sun Belt play, Lichtenberger is hitting at a .458 clip with an OPS of 1.280.

Lichtenberger is the first Mountaineer to be recognized on the Brooks Wallace Watch List since Will Callaway in 2013. He joins Texas State’s Ryne Farber as the only Sun Belt players to earn the distinction this season.
