Keep Ashe Beautiful volunteers hit the roads of Ashe County for
their semi-annual Litter Sweep

Over three hundred KAB volunteers could be seen cleaning up roadsides
throughout Ashe County helping bring awareness to littering, and to help beautify
our community

Ashe County – Keep Ashe Beautiful (KAB), led its network of more than three
hundred volunteers across the county as part of its semi-annual litter sweep
engaging businesses, local residents, landowners, service clubs, and churches.
Over five hundred bags of litter and everything from tires, mailboxes, sofa
cushions, and exhaust pipes, were collected and readied for the Department of
Transportation to pick-up along the sweep routes.

“Our litter sweep this fall was well attended, with volunteers of all ages collecting
bags of litter.” Said KAB Executive Director John Cannon. “Volunteers, in their
bright yellow shirts and safety vests, could be seen on roadsides across Ashe
County participating in this amazing local community improvement event.”
“Keeping litter off our roads not only keeps Ashe County beautiful but also assists
in attracting new businesses, residents and visitors to our community”, said KAB
Executive Director John Cannon.

KAB thanks the individual and businesses that participated (see complete list
below) and send a special thanks to Gary Brown, owner of Boondocks
Restaurant and his team for participating and promoting the event all weekend in
the restaurant. Boondocks and Hotel Tavern provided food discounts. Food Lion
provided reuse grocery bags to assist in their local effort to eliminate plastic in
our waste stream. Ingles, and Dollar General of West Jefferson provided bottled
water and snacks to volunteers. Creative Printing and K&K Stitch and Screen
have supported the preparation effort for our litter sweep in print materials and tshirts
for the volunteers.

Our local media outlets have been helpful in promoting the event and ensuring
the public is aware of our efforts. Special thanks go out to The Ashe County
Line for on-line coverage; Ashe Post and Times for media print coverage; and
