Highway 88 East On-Going Traffic Strain Beginning Monday April 15th
During the past year, the large parkway bridge in Laurel Springs has been
under construction as they prepare a replacement. Over the next few
months, many large items that cannot be delivered from any other
direction will hinder Ashe County residents.
Beginning Monday, April 15th the slow-downs will begin. The section starts
at the Jefferson intersection of Highway 88 East & 221 North (The Corner
Market/Vannoy Construction). While the road should not be closed,
sections will be temporarily paused for short amounts of time as the crew
hauls extremely large material to the bridge in Laurel Springs. This will
occur many times over the next few months.
On Monday, April 15th, from approximately 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.,
materials will be brought up for a “Dry Run.” Please know and expect
travel delays from the Corner Market in Jefferson to the Parkway Bridge
adjacent to downtown Laurel Springs. Allow extra time on this day.
The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office will assist in every operation as they
“leap-frog” the materials. We wish we could provide specific delivery
times and road closures, but they are limited to when the items arrive in
the Jefferson area. We will try and do our best to inform the public
beforehand, but we may also be unaware of the time period, materials will
arrive before we assist.
