Fly Around Fest: A Musical Celebration benefiting Hurricane Helene Recovery in Western North Carolina

Lansing, NC – April 15, 2025 – The inaugural Fly Around Fest will take place on August 1–2, 2025, in the beautiful Appalachian small town of Lansing, North Carolina, to celebrate the region’s natural beauty and deep musical heritage while raising funds for the recovery efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Helene. The festival aims to support the community in Lansing and surrounding areas as they rebuild from the historic flooding caused by the storm. Ashe County’s musical history includes artists like Frank Blevins, first to record the standard (and festival namesake) Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss, and Ola Belle Reed who’s songs High on A Mountain and I’ve Endured are adored classics.

  • Location: Lansing, North Carolina

Fly Around Fest is committed to highlighting the rich history of traditional music in Ashe County, while presenting artists who are stretching the boundaries of those traditions, offering a platform for cultural expression while contributing to the ongoing recovery efforts from last September’s devastating flooding. The festival will feature a diverse lineup of performances, crafts demonstrations, and community activities, all designed to foster resilience and unity. We are hosted by Lost Province Center for Cultural Arts, an arts non-profit restoring the classic WPA era stone Lansing School campus where the festival will take place.  After the storm, LPCCA responded by hosting a relief center, which quickly became the epicenter of the relief effort in the rural Northwestern corner of Ashe County.
