Five people dead in Watauga

THE WATAUGA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS CONFIRMED THAT FIVE PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN A STANDOFF IN WATAUGA YESTERDAY (WED) INCLUDING TWO DEPUTIES. WATAUGA COUNTY DEPUTIES, SGT. CHRIS WARD AND K-9 DEPUTY LOGAN FOX RECEIVED GUNSHOT WOUNDS AT THE BEGINNING OF A 13 HOUR STANDOFF THAT ENDED JUST AFTER 10:00 PM LAST EVENING WITH THE UNIDENTIFIED SHOOTER REPORTEDLY KILLING HIMSELF. THE PARENTS OF THE SUSPECT WERE ALSO KILLED. YESTERDAY AT 9:44 AM THE WATAUGA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RESPONDED TO A CALL FOR A WELFARE CHECK AT 553 HARDAMAN CIRCLE IN BOONE WHEN THE HOMEOWNER’S EMPLOYER CALLED WHEN THE HOMEOWNER FAILED TO REPORT TO WORK AND DID NOT RESPOND TO TELEPHONE CALLS. UPON ENTERING THE RESIDENCE BOTH OFFICERS WERE SHOT. OFFICER WARD WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE SCENE AND DIED AT A HOSPITAL. FOX DIED AT THE SCENE. THE DECEASED PARENTS AND THE SUSPECT HAVE NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. MULTIPLE LAW ENFORECEMENT AGENCIES, INCLUDING THE ASHE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND WEST JEFFERSON POLICE ASSISTED. AN INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.
