First Visit After Pandemic Isolation
One of the many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic has been the social distancing and physical separation necessary to keep residents in long-term care facilities safe. Many residents have only had contact with loved ones through window or virtual visits and phone calls since March 2020.
This was the case for Jannie Carter, 96-year-old resident of The Foley Center at Chestnut Ridge in Blowing Rock and Caldwell Hospice patient. On March 25, 2021, Caldwell Hospice High Country team members had the privilege of escorting Carter’s two sons, Lynn and Joel, for their first in-person visit with their mom in a year.
“The boys are here,” exclaimed Carter as her sons entered the room. “God bless you!” After months of calls and virtual visits, actually holding her sons’ hands was so special. All hearts were full.
